The Piazza Fontana massacre in which 17 people died and another 88 were seriously injured was the beginning in Milan of a period of terrorist attacks, innocent deaths, misdirections, trials and falsehoods which only in recent years, thanks to the strenuous demand for justice , of the victims' families, saw the truth about the instigators and perpetrators being revealed. A relatively recent history of our city about which much has been said and written but which many people still don't know today, especially the younger ones.

"City Escape Piazza Fontana" is the result of the collaboration between Garipalli e Average Factanza, two innovative startups that intend to offer new generations useful tools to understand the world they live in. It is the first City Escape in Italy designed to talk about the places of historical interest that have marked our country, an interactive experience that combines documentary research and digital tools, reading and investigation, critical sense and discovery of the truth.
Participation in "City Escape Piazza Fontana" is free and available every day, until December 12th. Anyone will be able to immerse themselves in this story of our contemporary history by moving, alone or in a small group, on a path of reconstruction of the facts guided by enigmas, key documents, places in the city. The experience lasts approximately 90 minutes and is suitable for all ages, from 15 years old and up. Taken back in time to 1969, the participants (mainly young people and students) will go through the events of that year and that December which culminated with the explosion of the bomb in the bank hall, the massacre, the funerals of the victims and the dismay of an entire city. Within the interactive path the Fourth Estate, represented by the press and other sources of information, takes on the key guiding role. Newspapers, original testimonies and breaking news will guide participants towards actively reconstructing the factors that led to the attack.

“It is essential to find a way to explain and tell, especially to young people, in their own language, what happened on 12 December 1969 - commented the councilor for Youth Policies Martina Riva -. From this perspective, the experience proposed by 'City Escape Piazza Fontana' is loaded with important educational and civic value. Involved in the search for the truth, girls and boys will be able to learn about an event that marked the history of Milan and Italy, remembering it."

“We are happy - declared Federico Sinicato, President of the Association of the families of the victims of Piazza Fontana - that there is interest among young men and women in this matter. Piazza Fontana deserves that the new generations face it and take charge of it. It was a turning point that marked the history of our country and took root in the path that Italy has taken. This is why it must be studied and understood with all possible tools, even the most innovative."

Garipalli's City Escapes are interactive experiences to be enjoyed outdoors, dedicated to the discovery of Italian cities and their history through storytelling and gamification. The appointment with Piazza Fontana was born precisely from the desire to tell in a new way the historical events that are the protagonists of "Rewind": the Factanza Media podcast that recounts the Italian post-war period through the events that shaped Italy today. A podcast that has collected hundreds of thousands of listens since last spring, demonstrating against all prejudice the younger audience's interest in the history of their country.

Luca De Bellis, CEO of Garipalli, explained “We are excited to return to Milan with a new adventure and to tell a much more recent story this time. We wanted to reach the public with a careful and well-informed narrative, and to do so we wanted to involve a reality that had a profound knowledge of the subject and that, like us, spoke to young people. Factanza has the same values as us, and with an already active podcast on the subject it was a natural choice."

Livia Viganò, COO of Factanza Media: “Factanza's mission has always been to make new generations more informed and aware of the world around them. In this process, knowing history is fundamental, yet often at school we are unable to explain events from the post-war period onwards. We, with our podcast, have tried to do it with the approach that distinguishes us: educational and engaging. It was a great success and now, together with Garipalli, we want to bring all this from digital to physical, building a unique experience for those who want to know even more deeply the dynamics of the events we told them in the podcast".
