"The PAC does not forget".

All 23:14 pm on July 27, 1993 a car bomb in via Palestro destroyed the Pac, causing five deaths and at least twelve injuries, forever marking the history of Milan and the entire country.

While the fire brigade and the traffic police were evacuating the area, the vehicle exploded, killing one of the traffic police, three firefighters and a non-EU foreigner who was sleeping on a bench in the nearby public gardens; the explosion damaged the contemporary art pavilion, the public lighting system in the area and shattered the windows of the houses in a radius of 300 metres.
At dawn the next morning, a pocket of gas that had formed under the Pac also exploded, completely destroying it; the second explosion also partially damaged the adjacent Gallery of Modern Art.

A mafia-related attack in a historical moment of fundamental commitment of the country in the fight against the mafia, an unprecedented and sensational attack on the symbols of culture and art in Italy which also involved other Italian cities (via dei Georgofili in Florence, the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano and the Church of San Giorgio a Velabro in Rome).

Program:

  • 9:30 Commemorative ceremony (the mayor intervenes, Giuseppe Sala);
  • 18:30 "The PAC does not forget", guided tour;
  • 22:30 Moment of reflection, with testimonies and readings.
