Air and Climate Alliance
La transition towards a healthier and more livable city, capable of combating the problems caused by climate change, can only be done involving all the parts that compose it effectively. In fact, cities occupy only 2% of the Earth's surface, but host 55% of the global population (which will become 70% by 2050). They produce around 70% of global CO2 emissions, but alone they can only achieve 40% of the mitigation objectives set by the Paris Agreement as they control only 10% of carbon emissions directly.
It is therefore essential for city institutions to create organic collaborations with the private sector and it is precisely from these assumptions that theAlliance for Air and Climate of Milan, an initiative along the lines of other City-Business Climate Alliances spread around the world (e.g. London, Paris, Boston) which involves structured collaboration between local institutions and the private sector to achieve climate objectives more quickly and effectively and of air quality.
It is proposed as a common and shared path for
- involve companies that already have advanced sustainability strategies;
- stimulate companies that have not yet started this journey;
- to ease collaborative processes useful for the ecological transition.
To create this framework, a three-phase participatory process was designed.
FIRST PHASE - COMPLETED
It saw the involvement of the Municipality management and representatives of the business associations who discussed the issues fundamental elements to be taken into consideration for the development of the project.
SECOND PHASE - IN PROGRESS

The phase of co-design si concluderà indicativamente verso la metà di June 2024 dopodichè le linee-guida sviluppate verranno messe in pubblica consultazione affinché tutta la business community cittadina possa prenderne visione e contribuire alla finalizzazione per poter poi aderire all'Alleanza vera e propria.
THIRD PHASE - SECOND HALF 2024
The actual launch of the Alliance will take place in the second half of the year and will allow, through participation in a dedicated Expression of Interest, membership of all the businesses in the city interested in contributing to the city's transition process.
