Earth Day

Earth Day

On the occasion of Earth Day, on Monday 22 April, a meeting will be held between the mayors of the cities of the Po Valley and scientists, doctors, associations, citizens and citizens, to discuss the measures necessary to tackle pollution and improve Air quality.

The meeting is held at Piccolo Teatro Strehler in Milan, starting by 9: 30.

The initiative was launched by the First Citizens of Milan in a letter sent to their fellow mayors of the Po Valley. Giuseppe Sala, from Bologna, Matthew Lepore, of Turin, Stephen Lo Russo, from Venice, Louis Brugnaro and Treviso, Mario Conte.

Starting from the shared assumption that Breathing clean air is a fundamental right of everyone, the Mayors remind us that this is "an urgent issue that must be addressed with rigor and for this reason, starting from our territories, we are committed to promote increasingly environmentally friendly measures. There is no doubt and record that the levels of fine particles have significantly decreased since 2002, but this is not enough."

"However – they add – we are aware that even the most drastic interventions, if adopted individually, are not sufficient to mitigate the problem.
When we talk about air we cannot limit ourselves to wearing the lenses of the municipal perimeter but we necessarily must consider the entire Po Valley".
And they conclude: "We don't want to stand by and watch: we intend to continue to do our part and we ask you too. We must network to win the battle against pollution".
