WeMI Cenni presents: "The keys to the house"

“The keys to the house” lets us enter into everyday life and tells us what it is like to live in a housing project that supports an independent life path for people with disabilities.

“The keys to the house” is a housing experiment project that promotes the autonomy of disabled citizens from their family, encouraging detachment and social inclusion.

This micro-community is inhabited by 5 people - three men and two women - and by an operator present for several hours of the day. In this period, the weekend is marked by taking care of the house and by important moments of exchange and sharing with the operators present for many hours during the day.

The shopping for the week is done by the educators, to avoid crowded situations for the inhabitants; the latter, however, are responsible for small purchases in the area, such as buying bread for the day and food shopping in the neighborhood market. Also important is the time of preparing meals, which engages the inhabitants, some of whom are able to prepare delicious delicacies.

Unfortunately, given the circumstances, visits to the community by family members are not possible, which is why it was necessary to find a way to bridge the imposed distances. Sunday after lunch has therefore become the moment in which we pamper ourselves a little: together with coffee we enjoy a sweet to share remotely with relatives and friends on a video call.
