Financial education: the new accompanying service to learn how to manage savings well and achieve future life goals

WeMi Financial Education is the new service of the Municipality of Milan that helps citizens face moments of economic difficulty and plan their future life safely.

The service is free and includes personal accompaniment by a qualified financial educator from the third sector. The service complies with the technical quality standard UNI 11402:2011 "Citizen financial education" and draws on the international experiences of the English Government (Money Advice Service) and the main US cities (Offices of Financial Empowerment) in offering support for the well-being of families.

The financial educator meets the citizen and helps him to confidently face the challenges and economic difficulties of life and to:

  • monitor income and expenses to improve spending habits
  • save more by implementing small concrete actions
  • support debts to be able to pay installments and rent without worries
  • protect against unexpected events, managing sudden needs
  • prepare for life in retirement to be able to live an old age without worries
  • achieve important future goals (a good education for our children, support for those dear to us, our own home...)

The financial education service helps to acquire awareness of needs and desires, giving them a measure. Under no circumstances does it provide for even indirect forms of promotion of products in the financial, insurance, social security and credit markets. The financial education service is developed through two different moments: public awareness meetings and individual support meetings.

The collective meetings are preparatory to the individual meeting with the financial educator. While not mandatory, it is recommended to attend the meetings before meeting the financial educator.
