From home to video calls: the redefinition of home educational intervention during the lockdown period

The home educational intervention aimed at children and young people and their families underwent a decisive change in March 2020 with the start of the lockdown period which forced all of us into our homes. The physical limitation has not diminished the needs of families and dependents, on the contrary it has added needs for contact, discussion, support and dialogue. This is how educators have transformed themselves into remote communication experts, reconstructing and redefining the objectives of individual interventions in remote activities.

Adriana, 14 years old, passionate about writing and storytelling, this is how she tells herself.

“He hadn't gone out for too long now, he could only look at the window and hope that all this would end. She missed school, she missed going out and feeling the wind caressing her face, but at the same time she liked staying at home and being with the computer, because even if she couldn't be with friends in person she could talk to them with her calls. She continued to listen to what her friends had to say… but while she only listened to her, they called her and asked her if everything was okay given the enormous silence on her part. She, with all the calm and kindness that she has, answered "Yes" and continued to speak: in the meantime she hoped that all that would end."
