Great Gold Medal of Memory
They fought against an invisible, unpredictable, unknown enemy. They faced it with courage and self-sacrifice, putting themselves at risk to save others and falling victim to that same evil. While the whole country stopped waiting for recovery, the sound of the sirens never stopped, the rescue efforts did not stop even for a moment. And inside every vehicle, in the corridors of hospitals, in nursing homes and wherever there was a patient to be cared for, men and women did their utmost to provide care. There is no stronger gratitude than that towards the rescuer who loses his life while carrying out his duty, saving the existence of another human being in danger. There is no greater message of solidarity and altruism than what these women and men in healthcare gave every day with their actions, never in words, because there was no time to even stop and think. Every broken life is a wound that Milan mends with the memory of each of them.
Gold Medal of Memory
For fellow taxi drivers, they are heroes who fell at work, a symbol of a category that, even in the most difficult moments of the pandemic, did not want the city to lack an essential service for many. Without ever refusing a ride, sometimes even driving for free, they accompanied all those who urgently and needed to travel for health reasons in Milan and its hinterland: nurses, doctors, operators and patients. Giuseppe, 63 years old, with a past in the Local Police, was the taxi driver of San Paolo: he went back and forth between his headquarters, the Famagusta car park, and the hospital where he then fought against Covid-19. Like Mauro, 57 years old, a former boxer, who remained in service until the end. Both victims, a month apart from each other, of an evil against which they had decided to fight by continuing to do their job, every day and on the front line for their city.

Precisely during an international monitoring activity against fraud and intimidation during the 2018 Turkish elections, she was stopped and detained for two weeks. Having returned to Milan, she continues her activity 'on the side of those who have no voice', creating networks of women everywhere who know how to support each other: but she is the point of reference and hope for the future, a friend on whom one can always count. For Milan, her hometown, she contributed to the foundation of the Casa delle Donne and she worked to resolve the problems of the Via Padova neighborhood.
