In 1958 Giacomo Bulleri arrived in Milan and opened the restaurant in via Donizetti, immediately conquering the Milanese with the great dishes of the Tuscan and national tradition. Poet and coordinator of the creative writing workshop in the Bollate prison, Maddalena Capalbi has lived in Milan since 1973. Chancellor at the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office, she has published several poetic collections. In 2003 you worked alongside the head of the poetry laboratory in the Opera prison, and then transferred the experience two years later to the Bollate institute, where the laboratory became a national pilot project due to its quality and innovation characteristics. After the first few years, also open to women prisoners, the laboratory is today a space for creativity and active regeneration of the personality of prisoners, as well as dialogue and cultural integration for inmates of different nationalities. The annual publication of the laboratory's poetic anthology makes the authors protagonists with a project of active openness to society which also has a valuable impact in terms of training. In 2014 the laboratory opened up to acting with the production of “Waiting to go”, performed at the Carcano theatre. Milan pays homage to the creativity and high contribution of social promotion in prisons that Maddalena Capalbi continues to promote as an example for Milan and the country.
Former president of the Italian Society of Neurology, Giancarlo Comi, director of the neurology department and of the Institute of Experimental Neurology of the Irccs San Raffaele hospital, is one of the leading international experts in the treatment of multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative diseases. Graduated in medicine in 1973 with top marks, he specialized in neurology in 1977. Director of the multiple sclerosis center of the San Raffaele hospital, member of numerous international scientific colleges, he made a key contribution in the development of early treatment of multiple sclerosis , in the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological degeneration and in research on complications. For his numerous discoveries he has also obtained important international awards, such as the recent «Charcot Award 2015», awarded by the International Multiple Sclerosis Federation. Author and co-author of over eight hundred scientific publications, Giancarlo Comi has created over the years a team of researchers and clinicians of exceptional scientific level, with whom he has achieved significant goals for the benefit of patients. Milan recognizes Giancarlo Comi as an interpreter of the city's values ​​of professionalism, innovation and civic generosity.
Middle-distance cyclist, European champion in 1968 and three-time bronze medalist at the world championships, Domenico De Lillo was born in Milan in 1937. An early cycling enthusiast, he began road racing at the age of fifteen. Having reached the age of majority required by the competitive regulations, in a decade he achieved the highest athletic goals of the specialty at an Italian and international level, competing with the champions of the moment, from Timoner to Kock, from Marsell to Ouderk. From 1976 to 1979 he was a motorcycling coach for Pietro Algeri, Roberto Dotti and Bruno Vicino, winning four world titles. Sports director of Gewiss-Bianchi until 1989, he is today a member of the professional technical commission of the Italian cycling federation. On 11 June 2015, railway workers employed by Trenord suffered the undignified attack by five young people from the Ecuadorian MS13 gang. The train conductor Carlo Di Napoli, while filling out the fine for not having the tickets, was attacked: during the scuffle he was seriously injured in the arm. Riccardo Magagnin, a colleague of the injured man, intervened promptly despite being off duty and was hit on the head, suffering a head injury. Head of the Flying Squad dealt a heavy blow together with the agents of the "Foreign Crime and Prostitution Section" to the South American gangs in the area adjacent to the former Trotter park. On 22 September 2015 Alessandro Giuliano and the officers of the section arrested fifteen members of the Barrio 18 gang after the courageous complaint of a girl who had suffered violence. One of the many operations to protect the safety of the city of which he was and is the protagonist. Milan pays tribute to him for the high professionalism and prompt effectiveness demonstrated in the intervention together with all the officers of the section, and for the daily fight against organized crime in the area.
Hematologist of the highest international level, clinician of recognized value, member of the major national scientific societies, Giorgio Lambertenghi Deliliers is one of the leading Italian scholars in the field of hematology and transplants. Graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Milan in 1964, he was responsible for the marrow transplant center of the Ospedale Maggiore – Policlinico di Milano in 1990, director of the Hematology 1 Operational Unit of the Irccs Ospedale Maggiore foundation. He directed the department of hematology and oncology and the hematology specialization school of the same foundation. As a teacher and as a scientist he has collaborated with various universities around the world. He is scientific director of the Mattarelli Foundation and of the “Beat Leukemia” foundation. He chairs the ethics committee of the Auxological Institute. He has combined his professional commitment with assiduous volunteer work at the clinic of the "Fratelli di S. President of "Abc - la sapienza in table", a catering cooperative of the Bollate prison, she was an educator in state nursery schools for twenty-two years and subsequently a freelancer in the catering sector. Since 2004 you have been dealing with the prison world with the foundation of the cooperative together with both external and inmate members, as a tool for rehabilitation, reintegration and professional training. In 2011 you inaugurated the internal prison section of the "Paolo Frisi" hotel school in Milan, to offer prisoners a study path leading to the achievement of a diploma. In 2015 you opened "Ingalera", the first and only case of a restaurant inside a prison, open to the public for both lunch and dinner: a structure of social integration and dialogue between the prison and society. Milan recognizes in Silvia Polleri the highest Ambrosian virtues of civility, industriousness and social innovation.
Priest, educator, pastoral manager of the parishes of Greco and protagonist of the Caritas project "Ambrosian refectory": a solidarity canteen opened in the year of the Universal Exhibition in the premises of the former parish theater of Greco. The canteen, born from an idea by Massimo Bottura and Davide Rampello, involves the best international chefs and designers together with large companies, and involves the reuse of food surpluses. Don Giuliano continues to support, promote and develop the experience of solidarity and innovation of the refectory even after the Universal Exhibition, as a stable service to the Ambrosian community. Don Giuliano best represents the citizen spirit of hard-working and creative solidarity and is an example of social generosity that generates and spreads altruism and hope.
President of the scientific committee of Expo 2015, member of the International Board “We – Women for Expo”, she has been the protagonist, since the presentation of Milan's candidacy, of the scientific and cultural program linked to the Universal Exposition. Full professor of agricultural microbiology at the University of Milan, you have coordinated several international projects on agriculture and environmental issues. She is involved in international scientific cooperation for the agricultural development of arid areas and is the author of numerous publications in international sector magazines. She was awarded the honor of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, she contributed to spreading throughout the world the image of a Milan capable of the highest goals of scientific and technological innovation in favor of the development and dignity of every people.
Enter the Certificates of Civic Merit
Founded in 1981 on the initiative of some parents, the AGPD has become a point of reference throughout Lombardy for people with Down Syndrome. It has carried out incessant work of mediation, awareness and training, placing children, teenagers and adults at the center of its action, highlighting their potential and the possibility of achieving an autonomous and independent life. One of the best known experiences, born from this association, is the Locanda alla Mano, the refreshment point present for three years in Piazza del Cannone in Sempione park. A loved and frequented place where the association's motto "fly with your wings" has become a concrete message for everyone.
Support for road victims and their families is at the center of the commitment of this non-profit organization founded in Milan in 2005. In addition to offering extensive free assistance, the Association stands by those who, following a road accident, have suffered serious disabilities, supporting them, together with their families, in the process of reintegration into everyday life. Furthermore, AIVIS aims to improve the laws by stimulating regulatory interventions in defense of victims and to protect survivors. The association is strongly involved in prevention activities, through road safety education campaigns, including in schools, and raising awareness of safe driving. Since July 2015 it has offered a listening and assistance point at the Gaetano Pini Institute.
The structure was born from the intuition of doctors Rotolo and Galmarini and in 25 years of activity it has established itself as a point of reference for citizens and the international scientific community. The medical staff of the clinic has placed the creation of diagnostic and therapeutic paths on bone pathologies at the center of their mission, as well as the dissemination of a culture of osteoporosis prevention among women and the elderly. Since 1989, approximately 5 thousand patients have been followed, with the introduction of day hospital for some pathologies. Results that testify to the quality of the path undertaken, and now consolidated, to improve the healthcare offer aimed at citizens.
The popular Italian school for foreigners in the San Siro district celebrates 20 years of activity this year. The association, which operates in an area with a high migratory density, has welcomed at least 5 thousand students in recent years, followed with dedication by volunteer teachers and educators, convinced that learning the Italian language is a fundamental tool for positive integration in the city ​​social life. The Morning Women's School and the Evening Alphabet School aim, in fact, to improve students' ability to understand and express themselves in our language, so as to encourage autonomy and sociability in daily life.
Remembering Carlotta, who died at the age of ten from a serious illness, honoring her memory and doing what she would have liked to do: bringing a smile to all the children who suffer. For this reason, Fabio and Sune Frontani founded the Association which for over ten years has dedicated itself to children hospitalized, offering them friendship and solidarity. First in Genoa, then in Rome and then in Milan, Make a Wish is active thanks to more than 60 volunteers committed daily to making small and large wishes come true, such as meeting a famous person or taking the trip of your dreams. An enormous job, based on enthusiasm and determination to achieve the goal: fulfilling the wishes of sick children.
Established in 2001 by will of Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, the Association is made up of volunteers who dedicate their time in a spirit of solidarity to the cultural, religious and social activities that take place in the Diocese of Milan and, in particular, at the Cathedral. A precious commitment that goes from welcoming faithful and authorities to the apparently humble but necessary work, so that ceremonies and events can be followed and experienced by everyone in the best possible way. On the occasion of Expo 2015, the Association's volunteers guaranteed, together with Caritas operators, the opening and functioning of the Holy See Pavilion at the site of the Universal Exposition.
In fifty years of history, the Association has supported artisan entrepreneurship, providing the assistance and incentives necessary to face the challenges of an increasingly open and constantly evolving market. Precious help to a fundamental sector for the country's economy, closely linked to the technological innovations and social progress that the Italian productive fabric has achieved in recent decades. An important role played by the Confederation thanks to the irreplaceable contribution of entrepreneurs, officials and collaborators who, in various capacities, have given voice and strength to the work of representation in the territory and protection of the interests of its members.
It has been operating in Milan for 40 years to carry out educational interventions for children and families in difficulty. Over the years, in addition to community reception and home care for minors, the cooperative has been strongly committed to implementing interventions to promote family foster care, the well-being and social cohesion of young people and families with particular attention to foreigners and early childhood. A valuable work that is carried out in a network with public and private bodies so as to effectively respond to the needs emerging from the territory, favor opportunities for meetings and relationships in the promotion of innovative services on the topics of child care and protection.
Professionalism and dedication guide the daily commitment of the women and men of the Via Satta offices. Led by deputy commissioner Antonio D'Urso, the agents demonstrated great skill in controlling the territory and ability to intervene against crime, drug dealing and illegality. Even in the most difficult moments, they do not spare their presence on the street and alongside institutions, citizens, associations and are a point of reference for the local community and for the entire city. Also thanks to this availability and the constant collaboration of all agents with the municipal administration, the Quarto Oggiaro neighborhood is today a place where it is more beautiful to live.
It was born with the aim of helping the most vulnerable citizens in the peripheral neighborhoods such as Lorenteggio and Giambellino. Support for families, education of young people, dialogue and social relations and solidarity, overcoming social marginalization due to drug addiction. These are the complex situations that over one hundred operators and volunteers face every day, to try to resolve conflicts and inconveniences. An even more meritorious commitment because it is made within a heterogeneous fabric and in situations often of social and economic difficulty. A special mention to the Day Center in via Bellini, a point of reference for young people, which this year marks its thirtieth anniversary.
For 30 years the Cooperative has been working to promote processes of change and support growth for young people. Strongly rooted in the Milan area, and in particular in the North and East areas of the city, Diapason has distinguished itself in the creation of socio-educational projects aimed at the area of ​​hardship, in favor of minors, disabled people and families in difficulty, both in daily living environment than in residential communities. Furthermore, he has developed specific, widely recognized expertise in the definition and management of inclusion, integration, scholastic support and social animation projects aimed at pre-adolescents, adolescents and young people.
Since 1946 it has been part of the history of our city. Through cultural, research and high-level dissemination initiatives, it has placed the analysis of contemporary social reality at the center of public debate, spanning multiple areas of interest. He was able to combine theological reflection with attention to the concrete problems of coexistence, intervening at the heart of the debates that animate the Milanese civil and religious community. The "Report on the City", created with the contribution of the Cariplo Foundation and created 20 years ago to monitor the socio-cultural transformations of the territory, is considered a particularly valuable tool, also recognized at an international level, for better understanding the Milanese reality and its its changes.

Founded by Davide Campari in 1915, it turns 100 in the year of the Universal Exhibition in which Milan confirms itself as a showcase for Italy in the world. A significant coincidence that goes well with the image of a place loved and admired, beyond fashions and trends.
He made his name in the Gazzetta dello Sport with a memorable interview with Gianni Rivera which thus interrupted a long press silence. And 3 years later she was the first woman to become a professional sports journalist and host a specialized television program. Her eclectic personality also led her to stand out in the musical and poetic world: in the early seventies she wrote the lyrics to some songs by Rita Pavone and Domenico Modugno. And in 2013, with the lyric "Veglia", you won the "Alda Merini" Poetry Prize. She is also active in volunteering for the protection of animals, she was awarded the title of "Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic" for having opened the path of sports journalism to women.
Independent cinema festival initially dedicated to short films, it was founded in 1995 with the aim of promoting the works of Italian and international authors. It is organized by young Milanese people from the cultural enterprise Esterni, who have managed to make this September event an unmissable event for audiences of all ages. In 2015 it celebrated its first twenty years of activity, characterized not only by an artistic proposal now recognized internationally, but also by the ability to enhance public spaces through many collateral events which enliven squares, theatres, streets and museums during the festival of the center and the periphery, thus concretely translating the idea of ​​"accessible culture".
Thirty years have passed since the first heart and liver transplants and the center still confirms itself today as a reality of national and international excellence in transplantology activity. A success that is based not only on the number of operations carried out, over 5 thousand, but also on the results obtained by the skin bank, a specialized laboratory also capable of supplying national and international structures for reconstructive operations. A further distinctive and qualifying element is represented by the use of latest generation technologies and tools. Born in 1962 in via Sant'Andrea as an American bar, it immediately became a privileged destination for artists, entrepreneurs and professionals who loved high life. Among his customers were also Jean-Paul Belmondo and Eugenio Montale, who almost daily indulged in a Martini between his tables. In 1986 it was taken over by Ermanno Taschera and Vincenzo Zagaria, who still manage it today, over time combining the traditional American bar activity with that of a refined restaurant offering traditional Milanese dishes in a contemporary version. Since 2002 it has moved to Via Senato, in the fashion quadrilateral area, becoming an increasingly popular destination for Milanese and loyal tourists. From this year it is in the register of the Historic Milanese Shops.
It is one of the longest-running national circulation magazines in Italy. Its creation, dated July 1945, is the work of the journalist and lyricist Gian Carlo Testoni who returned to jazz the dignity lost during the Second World War, when the fascist regime fought the genre, defining it as "degenerate music". Testoni directed it until his death in 1965. Arrigo Polillo took over from him and was responsible for the transformation from a niche publication to a magazine with internationally recognized authority. Today, seventy years after its foundation, it continues its work of dissemination and education in listening to a mature, complex and fascinating genre.
A Milanese institution which in forty years of existence has oriented its artistic identity in the direction of a "total theatre": not only with the usual representations but also and above all through the search for innovative verbal and gestural languages. They were a point of reference and the best witnesses of Milanese hospitality. Excellent bearers of the event's message of solidarity and integration for millions of Italians and foreigners. Citizens active in welcoming and supporting visitors, they were able to transfer the values ​​and contents of the theme of the Exhibition through a continuous and discreet work of information and awareness.
