Mariuccia and Gianluigi, who has no longer been with us since last year, are a true example of volunteering: for fifty years they have brought their commitment among the people, on the streets, in schools, in front of churches, earning the respect of the institutions , the respect of other associations and the trust of the inhabitants of Baggio.
An example of civil commitment to protect one's neighborhood, in the face of what, in conscience, he believed could negatively impact the quality of life of people and the territory. After the liberation, thousands of survivors of the extermination camps were welcomed in via Unione, the temporary headquarters of the Jewish Community of Milan. On the night between 25 and 26 January 2014, he performed the thousandth liver transplant on a young twenty-year-old: an important milestone for this world-class organization of excellence with more than 30 years of activity. Thirty years ago the first Legambiente territorial club was founded in Milan. From the beginning of the refugee emergency, the women and men of the Railway Police have been indispensable in organizing assistance. Qiqajon, in Hebrew represents the tree that gave relief to the prophet Jonah; in Milan it is a reality that has been accompanying children and young people with specific needs in their growth path for 10 years. In via Farini, in addition to a brick wall, a world opens up serving the neighborhood and the poorest: a daytime reception and study centre, a micro-nursery, a summer center with play activities and workshops. All this thanks to the daily commitment of a family who lives there and is a point of reference for an extended network of families who share the project. Qiqajon is a daily testimony of solidarity and civil commitment, a generous and high response, an investment and a gift for a better society.
Few things are as Milanese as panettone: for this reason, for 70 years, "il Vergani" has represented the history not only of a family, but also of the city. For four generations he has preserved and handed down values ​​and traditions that have made him a brand of excellence in Italy and abroad. It all began in 1944, in a small pastry shop in Viale Monza, where the young Angelo started his own business. The authenticity of the ingredients and the continuous search for quality allow him to specialize in the production of the "panettone of the Milanese". From the artisan workshop to the company, today there are 600 thousand panettones a year: each of them is special, precisely because it is made according to the original recipe and with the same care handed down by great-grandfather Angelo.
Young couple of sport dancers, they started dancing together in 2012, thanks to the great successes achieved separately in many national and international competitions. Their talent is best expressed in the most difficult category, that of professionals, allowing them to obtain the bronze medal at the world championship in Germany two years ago. 2014 marks the most prestigious results: Italian champions of Latin American dance and show dance, reach the final of the world cup in Riga and, on 4 October, win the world championship in Ostrava, in the Czech Republic, where they enchant the public with the their unique style and their refined technique. Their free program “The vagabonds” is a hymn to the positivity of life and love.

And again: the promotion of the birth of the national Arcigay, the contribution to the start of the Gay Lesbian Film Festival, the legal protection of marginalized people, the creation of a documentation centre. By raising awareness among citizens and combating social prejudices linked to the sexual and emotional choices of thousands of women and men, the CIG has contributed to making Milan the city of rights.
The tenants of the Aler houses in via Abbiati are committed every day to respecting the rules and civil and peaceful coexistence. A commitment that they have continued even in the face of threats and bullying, in the belief that the ability of residents to combat degradation and react to illegality contributes to improving the quality of life in working-class neighborhoods, safeguarding the public housing stock and strengthening the care of urban space. To set up a continuous dialogue with the institutions they decided to form an association, giving life to the Tenants Committee of via Abbiati 4.
Over a century of history of female solidarity. It offers welcome, protection and hospitality to mothers with children and minors who are victims of abuse, encouraging the (re)gaining of autonomy through professional training aimed at work and social inclusion. It was founded in 1902 by Ersilia Bronzini Majno, after the trauma suffered by the death of her daughter Mariuccia, with the aim of helping, through training and work, many girls who had suffered sexual violence or were on the road to prostitution. In recent years the Foundation has carried out an important renewal, recovering the purpose and inspiring spirit of the origins.
Four championships (1999, 2012, 2013, 2014), 3 Italian Cups (1999, 2013, 2014), 3 Super Cups (2012, 2013, 2014): with a list of ten titles and two consecutive 'trebles' in the last two seasons , the team playing in the A series of the inline hockey championship has entered the city's golden book. An inspiring idea - the Anglo-Saxon street magazines - and a pair of shoes: thus, twenty years ago, the newspaper Scarp de' tenis was born in Milan, the same title as Jannacci's song which describes the life and humanity of a “barbun”. A project that is not only editorial but social, still today linked to Caritas Ambrosiana and capable of giving voice to the "invisible", the homeless, people in difficulty, the marginalized: protagonists of a story to be told with awareness and pride. And with the dignity of citizens, accompanied in the (re)conquest of self-esteem and rights: home, work, health, relationships with family and the territory. Over 600 people collaborated on the project, writing or distributing the newspaper, and accessing social services related to Scarp.
The first theater company to go on stage was, in 1938, that of Eduardo De Filippo. Named after the deputy commissioner Paolo Scrofani, killed at just 40 years old in 2002, the Union carries out a meritorious work of juridical-legal, administrative and moral assistance to all those who, in fulfilling their duty in the service of the state and the community, are become victims of accidents, injuries or attacks. Founded in 1947, it promotes days of remembrance and the national Luigi Calabresi award, aimed at those who, in the various security forces, have performed acts of great courage. Also active on the volunteering front, she contributed, among other things, to the restoration of the monument in Largo Paolo Grassi dedicated to service victims.
They are on the front line in dealing with the emergency of Syrian and Eritrean refugees fleeing the war. Also busy until late at night on the mezzanine of the Central Station and in constant contact with the reception facilities, they face every day, with great humanity and dedication, the difficult task of giving first aid and overnight shelter to men, women and children: over 50.000 people since October 2013. With their constant presence, which has never failed even on weekends and holidays, they have been from the beginning and still are an example of the great generosity of which Milan is capable.
