Educational sections

The Educational Sections of the Municipality of Milan are active in the main ones museum centers and in Pediatric departments of four hospitals in the city.

The Educational Sections of the Municipality of Milan are active in the main museum centers of the city and offer schools activities differentiated by age, from the last year of nursery school to secondary school.
Art, history and nature itineraries are offered, with the aim of enriching the programs and training offerings.
Below is the list of Teaching Sections:

  • Educational Section Royal Palace

It was born in 1994 as an educational project for the temporary exhibitions of Palazzo Reale and the civic museums (Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano and Museo del Novecento) with specific activities aimed at schools and the local area. Objective: education on artistic, historical and cultural heritage, through an engaging and interdisciplinary approach.

 

  • Educational Section Steam Factory and House of Memory

The latest addition to the Educational Sections, inaugurated in March 2023, offers educational courses and workshops for schools and the local area. There Steam Factory it is a creative laboratory and an exhibition space that welcomes projects and activities on contemporary culture. The routes to House of Memory they intend to strengthen the memory and understanding of the events that led to democracy and its defense in our Republic.

 

  • Educational Section GAM – Gallery of Modern Art

It is located in the Museum of Villa Belgiojoso-Bonaparte, in via Palestro 16.
The Gallery is the ideal place to discover a part of the history of Italian art in a different way: the itineraries, which use the story telling methodology, allow you to delve deeper into specific historical, cultural and artistic periods, starting from the GAM collections and its spaces.

 

  • Educational Section Historical Collections

The Historical Collections Educational Section offers tours to Palazzo Morando, home of the art gallery and the Costume Moda Immagine collections, and to Palazzo Moriggia, home to the Risorgimento Museum, whose rich collection allows you to retrace the salient stages that led to the Unification of Italy, in which Milan was the protagonist. The comparison between past and present helps children to reflect on the great universal themes of justice, freedom, peace, war and democracy.

 

  • Educational School and Environment Section

 At Villa Lonati, home to the Green Area of ​​the Municipality of Milan and the adjacent Aurelia Josz Botanical Museum, the courses of the School and Environment Educational Section combine naturalistic, aesthetic and scientific aspects, encouraging the acquisition of "resonant knowledge" on the multidisciplinary.
An opportunity for classes to discover even unusual botanical species, think about the rhythms and cycles of the seasons and reflect on the natural balance and conservation of biodiversity.

The activities are aimed at children in the last year of nursery school, primary and lower secondary school students.

The hospital teaching sections are present in the Paediatrics of:

  • IRCCS Foundation - National Institute for the Treatment of Cancer
  • San Raffaele Hospital - San Donato Hospital Group
  • ASST Saints Paul and Charles.

The service was born in 1977 at the National Institute for the Treatment of Cancer and was then extended to other paediatrics at the request of doctors and psychologists from the Faculty of Medicine, consultants in the field of hospitalized children's problems.

The hospital sections are part of a broader framework of initiatives aimed at humanizing hospital environments, also characterizing them as spaces for living and not just for treating illnesses.

The educators' proposals and interventions have as their objectives:

  • welcoming the patient through actions that do not interrupt his or her needs for growth, safety, love, play and knowledge, addressing the psychological and social needs determined by hospitalization
  • promote the continuity of the educational process of the patient even in the hospital context, with activities that promote the connection with normal life and the overcoming of the conditions of passivity caused by the illness and hospitalization
  • support the relationship between the reference adult, the pediatric patient and the hospital, to help the patient cope with the hospital experience.
