Milan, June 11 2024 - Thursday 13 June at 10 am in the Alessi room Palazzo Marino, a special event will be held to commemorate the centenary of the sacrifice of Giacomo Matteotti, a symbolic figure of the fight for democracy and the right to free elections.
The event will be attended by representatives of the Municipality of Milan, Giulia Albanese (University of Padua and Ferruccio Parri Institute), Giovanni Scirocco (University of Bergamo and National Ferruccio Parri Institute), Nicola Del Corno (University of Milan and Anna Kuliscioff Foundation) and Maria Ludovica Mutterle (Giacomo Matteotti House Museum of Fratta Polesine), who will delve into the many aspects of Matteotti's life and thought, painting a fresco of an extraordinarily current idea of democracy.
The "creative lead" Marta Nava will present the "Piazza Matteotti" project, created last May 30th on the hundredth anniversary of Matteotti's last speech in Parliament. The project symbolically dedicated nine squares in nine municipalities of Milan through murals created in collaboration with the Kuliscioff Foundation and Ortica Noodles, leaving a tangible sign in the urban space.
The meeting will be introduced and moderated by the journalist Ezio Mauro.
During the morning, Elisabetta Vergani (Farneto Teatro) will perform a series of theatrical readings taken from a selection of documents on Giacomo Matteotti. At the entrance it will also be possible to view an exhibition of historical documents curated by the Anna Kuliscioff Foundation.
The initiative is carried out by the Municipality of Milan, as part of the “Milan is memory” project, in collaboration with the Ferruccio Parri National Institute, the Anna Kuliscioff Foundation and with the participation of Farneto Teatro, as part of the tenth edition of “ Milanosifastoria”.
Reservation to participate in the event is optional and can be made on Eventbrite
